Cameo Needle Punch Extra

Just ordered another Cameo Needle Punch. I have often thought it would be easier to not have to change the threads all the time. I think having another Needle Punch will help a lot. Looking forward to punching several of my witches boots. I hope to have these available in a few months

For those who purchase needle punch patterns. Do most have them have a list of the colors of floss used?

That is the hard part as I tend to over dye my floss to make it grungy and use several different kinds of floss. Mainly what I have on hand. I am thinking this is an important part to creating these patterns. I am sure many would go ahead and create their own color palette but there are others who would use the same floss I use in my project.

I was lucky and found a great buy on some weavers cloth. So I have A LOT of weavers cloth. In fact maybe enough to last a life time.

Have been trying to decide what creative art I would like to do next. Sometimes the choosing of what to do keeps me from actually doing.

Maybe I will create a needle punch Easter doll.

Or maybe start the work needed to get my witch's boot needle punch designs out in pattern form.

Maybe I might work more on designing the memorial hooked rug of my Grandparents farm outside of Unionville MO.

Maybe I could make a wonderful large black mammy doll.

Okay maybe I should do all then I won't have to choose. :)

I have been going through archived photos of my art career as a doll maker and fiber artist.

Here are just a few of the photos I am falling in love with all over again.

I used to make very large dolls but have downsized them due to living space and shipping charges for my customers. Some of these are paper mache doll sets.

Thought you might enjoy seeing a few.

After a lot of hard work in distribution of Christmas trees we are in Quartzsite enjoying some much needed rest. I have read several books while we have been here. Before we left Phoenix I downloaded Kindle to my PC. I enjoy reading books on the computer but need to have regular books around too. As we both share this computer. I hope to purchase an Ebook reader like Kindle Fire or a Toshiba Thrive in 2012

Today we will head to the Rock & Gem show. I hope to find some earrings. I keep loosing one so many of my sets are singles now. Ugggghhhhh. Looks like it will be a gorgeous day for a walk around the booths.

Hopefully my mind and hands will come together to start creating again soon. I have a skeleton witches boot design already drawn and ready to needle punch. I am perfecting the construction of these witch's boots and hope to release these as patterns this year. I have two designs already this it the third. Of course Spring is just around the corner so maybe some other things will be created for that season of joy.

Gingerbread Kleenex Cover Doll

This sweet gingerbread doll will add cheer to any decor. The doll is made from paint stained muslin fabric. Her face is hand painted and sealed. The Kleenex come up through her mixing bowl. The gingerbread doll's dress has little gingerbread all over it and very tiny candy canes.
Rich brown fabric trims her dress and the white rick rack adds a fun appeal. The button on her dress looks like a pearl button. Her head bow is made from green and red homespun fabric. The spoon is painted green with white painted ribbon accents to bring out the green in the head bow. This spoon is also
coffee stained. This is the last Gingerbread Tissue Cover I plan on making this year.

She is about 14" tall.

This year we are running the distribution lot for

Serving the Phoenix Tucson Sierra Vista and San Diego areas.

David comes in and the scent of trees envelopes the house. It is a very demanding and time consuming job but he is enjoying it. I am helping with paper work and things.

Today will find me also finishing a Gingerbread Kleenex Cover doll. This one is in browns and greens.

Will post a picture and might sell the doll on facebook. So stay tuned as I will post photos as soon as I can.

I have also started several new Black Cat Ornies. These are a new design so will see how they turn out.

Teddy Bear William Potts OOAK

Meet William Potts

This is my second rug hooked Teddy Bear. The bear parts areall hand hooked with the tradition art of Rug Hooking. William Potts is rughooked with dyed raw wool with silk noils added. This wool has added such aunique coloring to this bear. Notice his snout and paws are purple. WilliamPotts has a bead packet inside of his body to give him addition weight. Hiseyes are glass buttons and I added mohair behind his eyes to give him additionfacial character traits. William Potts’ nose and mouth were hand stitched withblack floss. His legs pads have been needle sculpted adding dimension to them. The wool scarf around William Potts's neck with come with the bear. ThisTeddy Bear is 12” tall while sitting and 13” wide at the widest part. This bearis not a toy and should not be given to children.

If you like this bear get him while you can. I can not makeanother bear this color as I do not have enough of the dyed raw wool to dothat. These are OOAK as no two will ever look exactly alike. The different raw wool used will always make them different.

Westcliffe

We have enjoyed our short time here in Westcliffe. Much needed time with family but not near enough. Already miss our kids. It may be all Winter and into Spring before we get to see them again. A few hours a year is not nearly enough. But alas our jobs take us here and there. This year it is so hard to leave. We did not get to spend enough time with them. So much has happened this year. My dad suffered a small heart attack last fall and my mom was diagnosed with cancer late this summer. I can say that both are doing well and I am so thankful for this. But this to makes it hard to leave here. My parents live here in the Westcliffe area. We hope to find a summer job next year here in Colorado and who knows maybe move back.

You can hang this any where and leave it out all year. The total height of the pocket , including strap, is 14 1/2" and is 5 1/2" wide.

This Witch's Pocket or purse has Lil Witch Nellie all deck out in her purple robe and hat. In her arms is her familiar Blacky the cat. The words Lil Witch are needle punched in a primitive style with mustard color floss. The background is punched in different tones of green floss. This Witch Pocket is made from black wool to which the needle punched picture is attached to. The pocket has a very sturdy wool handle or strap. Needle punched picture is punched on weavers cloth. Don't you just love the color palette? There are burnt orange & black spider webs in the corners. The spider hanging from her hat is dimensional so he is raised taller then the rest of the picture. Did you notice she has red and white striped socks? Her black boots have red crossed stitch laces and bows.

What a fun piece.

This photo gives you greater detail of the different elements in this awesome needle punch piece. Nellie is needle punched in a warm tone of cream. We have been enjoying our time in Colorado. Watching the many deer in the valley. We also have daily visit from our squirrels and chipmunks. We have the squirrels with the tufted ears. Both the gray and the black ones. I think they are called Abert Squirrels. We have noticed a flicker as decided to peck holes in our garage ugggghhhhh. Any hints as to how to stop that? David thought maybe one of those owls.

I have been taken time to relax and enjoy my family. Plus my right arm has really been bothering me so I have been trying to not use it in hopes that it will start feeling better. So far this has not helped. The doctor thinks it is tendonitis. I am missing rug hooking and needle punching. The idea's are still flowing though. I think I will try my hand and hooking our pet cat. Either as a purse or a pillow or maybe both. I am at the drawing and planning stage for this.

Mary had a pretty bird,
Feathers bright and yellow,
Slender legs--upon my word
He was a pretty fellow!

The sweetest note he always sung,
Which much delighted Mary.
She often, where the cage was hung,
Sat hearing her canary.

Now little Mary is a pretty as a picture. Mary's facial features are created with several techniques. Her gorgeous blue eyes are watercolor painted. The shading and highlighting, of her face, were also created with watercolor. The water color is sealed to keep the coloring fresh. Her nose lips and eyebrows are needle sculpted. Mary's eyebrows are also feather stitch embroidered with a rich brown color. Her eye lashes are painted. Mary's head is a separate attached piece. Her long pigtails are wool roving. Just look at those gorgeous hand made flowers adorning her pigtails.

Mary is made from osnaburg fabric. She has individual fingers and needle sculpted wee little toes. Mary sits very well as she is a little chunky. She is about 14" tall and about 13" wide. Mary has her favorite bird and fruit print dress on. This tea stained dress with the golden print fabric trim is the perfect setting for this themed doll set. Did you notice the other flower on Mary's sleeves? Flowers and birds are her favorite things.

The bird and cage are both made from onasburg fabric. Little Canary has wired feet and separate button attached wings. You can move the wings into what ever position you want. Little Canary is 5" tall. The bird cage is wired throughout so it will stand well on it's own. It is almost 9" tall and has a flower attached to the top. Did you notice it has a cage door.

Miss Hagitha is stirring her "Witchy Brew". Notice the fire has faces and the words Boo off to the side. Hagitha has beautiful brown hair and a long flowing cape.

This is an original design and is my fourth in a series of primitive Halloween designs that I am creating. This Witches boot is 8" tall and 6” wide. These measurements are the needle punch part only. Boot is Needle Punched on weaver’s cloth with a fun fall palette of colors. I used mainly antiqued DMC floss in the punching of this boot. This witch's boot is like a pillow in the shape of a boot. The backside of the boot is black wool hand sewn to the front. My business name Befruitful Kreations is hand stitched on the back of the boot. The top is indented and the backside rim is wired. The mustard and maroon pip berries coming out of the top are sewn in place. Did you notice the three rusty tin bells that embellish this boot? The hanger is jute.

E Patterns

It will take me a while but I am converting my patterns into E-patterns. As time permits I hope to do at least one a day. The program I use to create my patterns in the pages are a little larger in size thus when converted to a pdf some of the letters are cut off. So I am having to go into each pattern page and correct this. So it will take me a while to do this.

If there is a certain pattern you would like to see made into a PDF contact me and I will move it up on my list to convert. I am excited to offer these to my customers.

Traveling Mode

Tomorrow we hope to begin our journey back to Colorado via one of our favorite states New Mexico. We may not be moving back to Colorado yet. We are waiting to hear back about a summer job in Wyoming.

So I am sad to say that I will not be a vendor at the Colorado Hook-in. Not knowing what are plans are made this impossible for me to commit too.

I do have two new Black Dolls sets finished and I hope to list these over the next few days and another black doll that is almost finished. So stay tuned as to when these will hit the market.

This rabbit has been on my mind for several years. As an artist there comes a time when what you have envisioned and often drawn must be created. This is the case with Bunny Rabbit Lizzy Beth. She wanted to be created and I am thrilled with the results.

Bunny Lizzy Beth is a 14 ½” tall hand hooked free standing doll. She was hand drawn on linen and hooked with #8 cut strips of wool. The wools used are quality wools and some are hand dyed. The pattern of the wool used for her head, ears, hands and legs really gives her the appearance of having fur. Her dress is various shades of purple and the apron is various shades of pink. Every color used is muted. Notice the bow on her head matches the pink of her apron. The dress has a white collar at the neck, the bottom dress hem is also trimmed in white as well as the sleeves adding a lacy look to the dress. The neck collar also has a little rusty tin bell. Notice the ties of the apron on the back these are strips of wool. Around Lizzy Beth’s legs I created the look of a field of grass filled with raised flowers.

Miss Batilda is flying around in the gold and orange sky wondering "Witch Way" to go. She is pondering whether she should go east or west? That fun black cat seems to be trying to scare her with his words BOO or maybe he is trying to help her decide “Witch Way” to go.

This is an original design and is my third in a series of primitive Halloween designs that I am creating. This Witches boot is 8" tall and 6” wide. Needle punched on weaver’s cloth with a fun fall palette of colors. I used mainly antiqued DMC floss in the punching of this boot. The backside of the boot is black wool hand sewn to the front. This witch's boot has been stuffed with fiberfill with mustard and maroon pip berries coming out of the top. Did you notice the three rusty tin bells that embellish this boot? The hanger is jute.

Woke up in the night

It was funny that I woke up last night and wanted to get up and work on the needle punch project I have started. Usually I am awake pondering artwork stumps. Like how will I work this or that out in a design. But I just wanted to punch some more stitches. I love watching a design develop.

Look for a fun Witches Boot design created for Halloween Queen's Bootique. I am thinking of making these into patterns. Here are a few of the needle punch designs I have created. The last two are free standing dolls.

Rest and relaxation has been my agenda since we celebrated the end of another year of selling pumpkins and then Christmas Trees in Sierra Vista this year. I have read a couple of books that I have been calling my name. Dark Peril by Christine Feehan and Lover Mine by J.R.Ward. Enjoyed both of these books.

We are excited about a visit from our son Marcus. He is flying down late Thursday night.

I am am so excited to say that a McGown Teacher bought my Dimensional Rug hooked Windy Santa. She will be teaching a class on dimensional rug hooking with a Santa theme next November in Texas. My santa will be on display as a reference. How fun in that? Here is the front view.

My mind is moving toward creating mode and I plan to start creating after Marcus leaves. Look for something new for Halloween Queens on Feb. 1. I am already thinking Spring so look for some fun creations to hit the market soon. You all know one of my favorite things is creating black dolls so I am sure there will be a black doll soon.

Things to keep in mind about Christmas trees.

1. Do not put them near a heat source including the sun if possible.

2. Make sure that the tree has a fresh cut on the bottom before you put it in a tree stand. Just saw about an inch off the trunk of the tree.

3. Never let the water in the tree stand go dry. The tree will try to seal itself off and will not draw the water into the trunk as well.

These primitive Jack-O-Lanterns are made from Osnaburg fabric. The fabric has been paint stained in various stages to give the wonderful look that each of these have. These Jack-O-Lantern are approximately 11" high and is 8" wide. The size does vary some. Some of this depends on the stem chosen for the Jack O Lantern. I have shown four kinds in this photo. We have the Green on the top right. We have the Burnt Orange in the lower right. The Lumina in the lower left and the Vintage in the upper left. These Jack O Lanterns come with a flicker candle that is battery operated.

Crisp Cool Colors

The colors of fall are in full swing up here in the Rockie Mountains of Colorado. It is crisp and cool this morning.

I have been trying to catch the leaves falling from the aspen trees as gusts of wind cause them to cascade

down. The unique sound of the aspen leaves quaking on the batches is a calming sound to my ears. Peace and serenity abound up here high in the mountains.

Our cat loves it up here as he hunts for mice and chipmunks. Sometimes just a fluttering leaf will catch his eye.

This morning was cool enough to justify a fire to try to keep off the cold.

Much of Colorado has a fire ban but not up here. We have been enjoying the crackling popping of the pine and aspen logs as the fire consumes them.

I hope you have enjoyed my little photo shoot from up here in the Colorado Mountains.

Thought I would pop in and let my regular customers now that I will have some new things on the market soon.

We are once more in the process of heading south for the winter. This year via a trip to Kremmling. Yes I know that is north of where we are and not south. Well family and friends have met up there this time of year for a very long time. I am not into the hunting scene at all but enjoy visiting with the people we meet there.
So this week I have been going through all my art supplies trying to narrow down what to bring.

It is this time of year that I sometimes wish that I did not love a variety of mediums. But I love variety. So rug hooking, punch needle, painting, and doll making supplies must all come. I am so thankful that my husband knows I must create and does not complain about the four totes in the shower that must be moved to take a shower. Oh and the four totes under the bed. It is very interesting creating artwork in a fifth wheel trailer.We are hoping to get out of Westcliffe this week and to Kremmling before the weekend. Our Son Marcus will be sharing a week there with us.

I will still be creating while I am up there. Do look A Sun doll, two pumpkin head dolls and a witch doll. ++++ for some more Jack O Lanterns.

It has been such a long time since I have made one of my Sundolls. So next week or if can swing it this week I will be making a Sun doll. Might do a moon man with her or a Sun doll child. Hmmmmm

Here is one of my sun dolls as you can see it was made in 2008.

This one will have button eyes as that has been a request. Most of my dolls now a days have painted eyes but some of my customers like the dolls with button eyes. So look for some dolls maybe even a few black dolls to have button eyes in the future.

More Colorado Wildlife

We have seen three bears since we have been here.

This week two bear within about 5 minutes time.

A big brown bear. This photo was taken through the window so isn't the best.

The other bear was black with a brown muzzle. It never did come very close. It seemed spooked.

Many mule deer call this home.

This year we have some bucks. I did see a fawn while walking the other day. The doe's will start bringing them by soon. I will share some photos soon.

Squirrel

We also have a black squirrel that looks just like this. They have now lost their tufts of fur on their ears. The tufts made them look like rabbit ears.
The gray squirrel loves to chase the black on all over the hills. They are comics.

Chipmunks

These are all over the hills.

We also have rabbits but I have not been able to get a good photo.

Enjoying the creativity swimming around in my head and working it's way out in hands on creations.

I have a little black girl in the works. I do not do Caucasian dolls very often but my Mother Goose Pfatt Challenge doll is a Caucasion doll.This doll will follow the Mother Goose Rhythm of Mary's Canary. I also have another Mary's Canary doll in my mind that will find it's way to creation.

I also have a new needle punch doll that I will be working on soon.
